Tech champions, an exciting tech-themed comic launched with an aim to introduce young people into the world of Tech careers, came to life at a hybrid event on Thursday 10th of March 2022. The unique event brought local tech industry leaders, entrepreneurs and I.T. professionals straight from the pages of the comic to life on stage as part of the 2022 Derry and Strabane City Council Enterprise Week.
The comic has been developed as a means of communicating all of the different opportunities that are available within the local Tech sector to a younger audience, and showcased local tech professionals’ career journeys. Professionals from North West Regional College, Alchemy, Hypixel Studios and Elemental were skilfully illustrated in the comic book universe showcasing the experiences that led them to the current point in their careers.
The event, which was a collaborative project by Startacus and Revolve Comics, in partnership with major sponsors – Alchemy Technology Services, Derry City, Strabane District Council and North West Regional College was a hit amongst school students thanks to the support of community sponsors Seagate Technology, Ulster University, RealTime Recruitment and of course, Bring I.T. On.
The fun-filled event kept audiences engaged thanks to the number of talks delivered by local professionals, such as an Inspirational Talk by Adam McCallion from ‘IzonHow’, encouraging event attendees to never give up on their dreams and embrace their differences. This was then followed by a group discussion between all of the ‘real-life’ versions of the characters who had an opportunity to expand on their personal journeys in depth, and share plenty of motivational wisdom.
The students who were present at the venue were then encouraged to chat with career professionals, ask any questions or voice their concerns in regards to the future careers they wish to pursue. Overall the event was a huge success, that left students energised and feeling excited for their future careers, with many exclaiming their desire to follow in the footsteps of the professionals featured within the Tech Champions comic book.
